BBC plans season of punk programming
Louder Than War are reporting that the BBC are planning a season of programming on the topic of punk, it's history, and it's ongoing influence. The season, marking 35 years since punk achieved mainstream national attention within the UK, will centre around BBC4 documentary series Punk Britannia. The series, comprised of three parts, will feature the likes of John Lydon, Mick Jones, Siouxsie Sioux, Mark E. Smith, Pete Shelley, and Adam Ant.
In a marked contrast from much of the BBC's 25 years of punk coverage in 2002, the importance of US proto-punk and the New York bands will be addressed, as well as acknowledging the role the 1970s pub rock scene played in the development of British punk.
