Gene Simmons tries to trademark Devil Horns hand sign

Through the USPTO, Gene Simmons of KISS has filed a trademark application requesting the registration of the "devil horns" hand gesture. Notably, Simmons' version has the thumb sticking out instead of folded inwards. Simmons claims that he first used the gesture on November 14, 1974 and describes it as "a hand gesture with the index and small fingers extended upward and the thumb extended perpendicular.” Simmons has filed the mark under the category for "entertainment, namely, live performances by a musical artist; personal appearances by a musical artist.” The motion is also the American Sign Language gesture for "I love you." The USPTO has not yet issued an office action.
