Leftover Crack Playing Tompkins Square Police Riot Anniversary
us that on Sunday August 3rd in Tompkins Square Park in NYC Leftover
Crack will be playing at the anniversary of the Tompkins Square Park Riots
of August 6th 1988. Other bands playing the show include The World/Inferno Friendship
Society, F-Minus, John Denvers Airplane & Pigshit Engine. Various political
speakers will also be on stage throughout the event.
This is the 15th anniversary of the Tompkins Square police riots. The LoC's
site explaims " in an on going political struggle between the impoverished
residents of the lower east side & wealthy real estate developers armed
with the NYPD. The police decided to put black tape over their badges &
storm the neighborhood, beating political activists & innocent bystanders
alike. Luckily these events were caught on a video camera & broadcast around
the world. We gather every year to celebrate the NYPDS finest hour even though
the neighborhood soon lost the war against gentrification."
This will be a rare chance to see Leftover
Crack in their hometown, as they've been banned from just about every venue
in the city.
