Haymarket Riot finally gets new guitarist

After looking for a permanant guitarist for close to a year, Chris Daly has finally linked up with Chicago post-hardcore outfit Haymarket Riot. Daly is most well known for his 6 years spent in Sweep The Leg Johnny as well as his time in Check Engine. He currently also wields the axe for new Asian Man Records signees Just A Fire. The new lineup plans on breaking themselves in with a trio of shows in late September/early October. Click READ MORE for those dates, as well as the absolutely hilarious press release they were contained in [normally I'd never post an actual press release, but this one is a definite gem].

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DALY CLAIMED OFF WAIVERS!
Veteran guitarist, Chris Daly, has been claimed off waivers by Haymarket Riot. Daly spent 6 years in the Sweep the Leg Johnny organization and most recently spent time with Check Engine and is still sporting hot licks for Just a Fire (new record out this fall on Asian Man).

"We are all very excited to have a player with the resume of a Chris Daly," Fred Popolo, bass player, said at the press conference yesterday in Chicago, IL.

"He's a pro, I think we are ready to make a serious run at the playoffs," said Haymarket Riot drummer, Shane Hochsteter. "I've been with this band for a year now and its been great, but adding someone like Chris tells me that management is serious about bringing home championship banner"

"This will be our 6th line-up in a span of one year, Chris will deliver a sense of stability that we haven't seen since we joined the league four years ago," added Kevin J. Frank.

Daly has many tours and recording sessions under is belt and should blend in well with the work ethic of the band. Haymarket Riot has endured much the past year, after touring for 22 months in early 2002 in support of Bloodshot Eyes the band experienced many line-up changes, 3 surgeries (2 for Kevin: hand, 1 for Shane: wrist), a second European tour and having members live in 3 different states while still maintaining a schedule for shows and practice.

Daly is expected to jump right in the fire and contribute to playing live and recording. The band has plans to hit the studio later this year.

When asked how this transpired, Chris said, "I was sitting at home with my friends Will and Vince when I got the call. At first I thought it was a prank and hung up. Five minutes later my agent called and said that Haymarket Riot would like for me to come down for a physical. After that they informed me that I was in"

"We have about 12 new songs that we are working with and he's already playing 6 of them, along with 4 from the back catalog," said Kevin. Added Fred, "We want to take some time before we get in the studio. Its important to let this line-up gell and get used to one another. But we do have plans on playing out this fall"

Along with the Daly announcement, Haymarket Riot also revealed dates in which they will play live:

September 27, 2003 - Cincinnati, OH @ Sudsy Malone's w/ The Drapes, Viva La Fox
October 3, 2003 - Iowa City, IA @ Gabe's w/ The Lawrence Arms, The Ghost, Selfmademan
October 4, 2003 - Chicago, IL @ Fireside Bowl w/ 31 Knots, Zzzz!

Along with these dates the band said that more will soon follow when they are confirmed.

This move gives Haymarket Riot a chance to get back to the playoffs, where they had a brief stint in 2001 and 2002. When asked if there will be anymore moves before the deadline, management responded by saying that they feel comfortable with this line-up and expect the band to go deep in the playoffs and possibly bring home a championship.
