MAD Magazine shuts down
After 67 years, MAD Magazine is essentially shutting down. The publication will be pulled from magazine stands in August. Starting in October, the mag will be sold via subscription and comic book shops. However, while those issues will have new covers, the material therein will be archived, previously released material. The only new content from MAD will be its special end-of-year issue, while its parent company DC Entertainment will continue to publish Mad books and other special collections.
In 2018, the magazine underwent dramatic change. The editorial board, who had worked on the magazine for decades, including John Ficcara, Joe Raiola, and Dave Croatto, were replaced with a new editorial board. Longtime co-editor/contributor Nick Meglin passed away in 2018. After the editorial changeover, the Magazine was "Rebooted" with new issue numbers, starting at #1.
