Discogs reports most expensive tapes sold, Prince tops at $4,100, Throbbing Gristle at #3
Discogs has released a report of the most expensive tapes sold through the service. The most expensive tape sold through discogs was Prince's rare promo only album, The Versace Experience - Prelude 2 Gold. That sold for over $4,100, making it the most expensive tape sold on discogs and possibly the most expensive music cassette ever sold. (By contrast, the most expensive record ever sold was Wu-Tang's Once Upon a time in Shaolin, which went for $2 million).
Throbbing Gristle came in at #3 with the 26 tape set 24 Hours selling for $2,200. The most frequently occurring tape was the vaporware landmark release, Floral Shoppe by Macintosh Plus, which appeared on the list multiple times at different prices, ranging from $1,300 to $550. Rage against the Machine, Coil, Melvins, Mayhem, Blink-182, Tool, Pixies, Metallica, also appeared on the list. Check it out here.
