Mike Watt and Todd Congelliere form Jumpstarted Plowhards
Mike Watt and Todd Congelliere have started a new project. It's called Jumpstarted Plowhards and it finds the pair recording with a host of different drummers. So far, they've recorded with George Hurley (Minutemen, firehose), Patty Schemel (Hole), Nick Aguilar (Neighborhood Brats, Slaughterhouse), Jimmy Felix (Toys That Kill), Jerry Trebotic (Mike Watt and the Secondmen, FYP), Trevor Rounseville (Clown Sounds), Brian Brunak (Fartbarf) and Raul Morales (Mike Watt and the Missingmen).
Their debut release is called Round One and it's out as a 12-inch 45rpm record on Congelliere's Recess Records October 4. Most of the songs were recorded by Watt recording bass lines to a click track. He'd then send a CDR of the recordings to Congelliere who would then build off of Watt's work with different drummers. Watt was then brought back in to finish off the songs. The group plans to release five records total before playing live. Round Two is in the middle of recording now.
