Break-ups: Pele (1996-2004)

"Straight from the band themselves, Pele have announced that, after 3 albums and 7 years as a band, they are going their separate ways after their current Japanese tour. Also announced is the fate of the 2nd Paris, Texas full length, which apparently is going to be released on a major label in the spring of next year."

Hello friends,

After 7 years, 13 international releases, and various international tours, Pele have decided to end the group. Since 1997, Pele has had a variety of members, including Scott Schoenbeck, Scott Beschta, and Jon Minor, but our longest and most prolific run was as a trio, consisting of Chris Rosenau, Matt Tennessen and Jon Mueller. We released our final 3 full-length releases, The Nudes (2000), Enemies (2002), and Elephant (2003) on the independent label Polyvinyl Record Co.

Pele’s final tour will be in Japan, culminating with our final performance ever in Tokyo. The dates are as follows:

1/11/04 Shinjuku - Loft w/54-71, Mo'Some Tonebender, Battles (ex-Don Caballero/Helmet)
01/12/04 Shimokitazawa - Shelter w/Toe, 9 Days Wonder, Band Wagon
01/15/04 Nagoya - Tokuzo w/54-71, Battles
01/16/04 Osaka - Firefly w/Battles
01/17/04 Kyoto - Woopies w/54-71, Battles
01/19/04 Tokyo - TBA

Bassist Matt Tennessen will continue his work with the group Paris, TX, who have a new full-length due in spring on New Line Cinema’s new record label. Guitarist Chris Rosenau, percussionist Jon Mueller, laptopist Jon Minor, and synth/laptopist Jim Schoenecker will have a new full-length out under the Collections of Colonies of Bees moniker. This new record will be the sixth release, and will showcase the newly added members, and the subsequent change in sound and direction.

Pele’s website, www.pelemusic.com will remain active with archived information, eventually linking to a newly launched Collections of Colonies of Bees site. Check there regularly for news and updates.

Crouton, Jon Mueller and Chris Rosenau’s label, will also remain active, and can be visited online at www.croutonmusic.com

We would like to collectively thank everyone who bought our records, came to our shows, talked to us in person or email, had a drink with us, gave us a place to rest and/or food to eat, or even just thought of us. We could’ve done it without you, but it sure would have sucked!

xo,

Jon, Chris, Matt, and Jon
