Elliott Smith's type of death undetermined

Numerous news sources have reported that the cause of singer/songwriter Elliott Smith's October death has been ruled as undetermined. Smith, who died from two stab wounds to his heart, was initially thought to have committed suicide, but the LA County Coroner's Office stated that evidence was inconclusive enough to speculate that he could have been the victim of a homicide instead. Smith's body also came back negative in testing for any alcohol or illegal drugs, only turning up prescription antidepressant and ADD medications in his bloodstream.
