Strummerville fundraising at London Marathon, website launching in April
Straight from a press release for the Joe Strummer Foundation For New Music:
Following Joe Strummer's untimely passing, his family and friends have launched Strummerville a charitable foundation for the promotion of new music. The main aim of Strummerville is to provide aid to groups and organisations to fund the purchase of musical instruments, studio and rehearsal time; to enable the production of music by creative young people who would otherwise be preventing from doing so simply because they lack the necessary funds.
...Ben Heron, a willing Strummerville volunteer, is taking part in this year's London Marathon on Sunday 18 April. He has kindly agreed to collect sponsorship on behalf of the charity. Ben, who is 44 and lives in Manchester, is a keen marathon runner having completed it several times in previous years. His best time is 3 hrs 15 minutes and he is currently in training running up to 60 miles, eight times a week. There will be a gathering in the evening to congratulate Ben on his efforts and an opportunity to make a donation to Strummerville. DJ Scratchy will be at the controls to provide musical entertainment. Anyone in London that evening is welcome at The Duke of Clarence, Rotherfield St, Angel N1.If anyone wants to collect sponsors on Ben's behalf, or make a donation, please contact paula.strummerville@virgin.net.
The Strummerville website will be online in April. For now you can visit the temporary site and sign up for the foundation's mailing list at strummerville.com.
