Two Man Advantage in trouble with Zamboni Co.
Go-Kart Records posted the following Two Man Advantage news:
On Monday, April 19th the Wall Street Journal wrote an article entitled
"Dropping The Gloves, Picking Up Guitars, Call It Puck Rock." The
article featured Two Man Advantage and the history of hockey related songs and mentioning Two Man's song "Zamboni Driving Maniac" by name. This article was picked up and run all over North America which should be a good thing, right? Wrong. The Los Angeles Times reports in todays edition (April 23) that the
Zamboni Company is not happy at all and is considering legal action. "We're taking a look at that with our trademark attorney," said Paula Jensen, a spokeswoman for the company, which also markets Zamboni memorabilia. Part of the company's concern, Jensen said, is whether the song "implies an unsafe activity." Part of what is upsetting the Zamboni Co. is the fact that the song has been played in hockey arenas all over North America.
The band is quoted, "I don't know wether to laugh or cry. The song is obviously satirical and is meant as a tribute to the Zamboni." You can read the Los Angeles Time article here (subscription required). Click below for the lyrics.
"Zamboni Driving Maniac"
Before and after and in between,
One man's mission, the ice he'll clean.
He's fueled by hockey, fueled by beer.
Run you down if you get near.
