The Offspring
Smash (1994)

I know it's not very punk to review an album with such an abundant radio-play history, but this album is important. "Ignition" laid down the trend, and "Smash" solidified the mould. Like it or not, Offspring brought the So. Cal. punk scene to the world, along with that near swear word - Green Day. They opened the door so kids around the world could climb into Bad Religion and NOFX without having to stumble across it by fluke. You can thank "Smash" for the punk section in your local record store… and you could also just listen to it, and enjoy the simple, straight-ahead, punk-rock mastery of it.
