Pissed Regardless

Feed the Birds [EP] (2018)

TomTrauma

Pissed Regardless is an angry (duh) quintet from San Diego. They’ve only been around since 2013, but already have two full lengths to their name. This EP is my first exposure to the band, and I’ve got to say, it’s right up my alley. Feed the Birds seamlessly blends punk and thrash and hardcore and crossover. The five songs are aggressive and musically varied, but still manage to be tight and cohesive.

The drums on blistering opener “Empty” push Pissed Regardless into D-beat territory, even as it borrows a phrase from the golden oldie “You’re So Vain”. The title track and “Lipstick on a Pig” are closer to straight up thrash. Most of the lyrics are sarcastic and antagonistic and delivered in a raspy shout. “No Reprieve” is the exception and is more like posi New York hardcore. “Stand up, fight back, take your fucking life back/Never too late to get back on the right track”. Closer “Trust No Pulse” is just over a minute of no holds barred rage.

Pissed Regardless play fast, heavy music, but it still has a healthy sense of fun. The old school influences are clear to see, right down to the sort of violent cartoon artwork. This is for fans of bands like DRI, In Defence and MOD. Headbangers, crust punks and hardcore kids will all find something to like. For you vinyl collector nerds, the seven inch is available in a couple of cool color variants too. To sum things up, listening to Feed the Birds is a damn fine way to spend 10 minutes. Check it out.
