The Business
Hardcore Hooligans (2003)
Jim
What is it about soccer? It seems like every other street punk band is singing about it, ok that's a pretty big exaggeration, but still. I'm sure most of you have already heard of The Business. This British oi/street punk acting has been kicking around (horrible pun intended) for quite some time now.
This album is typical of their style, sing along choruses, lyrics about soccer, drinking, drinking, and sometimes soccer, you get the idea. It's just a fun album to listen to. It's the most challenging album, it doesn't have the deepest lyrics ever, it's not a concept album, but who cares? This CD is just a solid punk album, done the way it should be done. I haven't been very familiar with the band's back catalog, so I won't make comparisons to past albums, but I can say that this one is well done. Track 5, "Viva Bobby Moore", would have to be my personal favorite, with its catchy repeating chorus of what else but "Viva Bobby Moore!"
This won't be a good accompaniment to your new Noam Chomsky book, but don't like that bother you. This album is still good, even if the lyrics aren't anything special. This is just music to listen to when you're in a good mood. Even if you're in a bad mood, you can pop this is your CD player, get yourself a beer, and use whatever was in there before as a nice, shiny coaster. Actually, that coaster thing is probably a bad idea, but the rest seems good in theory.
If you're in the market for a good, fun punk rock album, then this won't disappoint in the least. I don't think there's much more to say without sounding redundant.
