Relient K
Deck The Halls, Bruise Your Hand (2003)
Scott
The Christian Pop-Punkers of Relient K have decided to join the ranks of the Vandals, MU330, and Nerf Herder and release a full Christmas album.
Their not-so-unique sound similar to that of New Found Glory or Homegrown gives a nice touch to some of your favorite Christmas Carols at this time of the year. Opening up "Deck the Halls, Bruise Your Hands" is my favorite traditional Christmas song "Angels We Have Heard On High" and despite the bands generic sound, they do an excellent cover of this and many other conventional Christmas carols such as: "Deck the Halls," "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," and "Handels Messiah The Hallelujah." The band even adds some uniqueness to the classic "12 Days of Christmas" as they question what some of those odd gifts are and they supply with a handful of exclusive breakdowns to keep you attentive.
Although this is no "Oi to the World" it sure beats "Santa Cause: A Punk Rock Christmas" as a superior Punk Rock Christmas disc. Relient K's attempt at the classics is done well and this is the perfect record to spin in your CD player during the holiday season this year.
