Fired Up
Doomed to Repeat [7 inch] (2009)
Brian Shultz
Fired Up do right by way of a fast, slightly ragged take on youth crew hardcore à la Right On and Lights Out with a good vocal front that takes the Cappo thing and tones it down in favor of a little melody and coherency. It's a good thing.
Naturally, this band's already defunct, but their aptly titled seven-song finale, Doomed to Repeat features some solid, subtle dynamics here and there, like "Divisions" and the more pronounced moments in "Mirrors Lie." "Overruled" stretches out its length a bit and gets a nice late '80s tone to its guitars.
By no means a mind-blower, but worth checking out if you're a completist for this particular subset of hardcore.
