Rolling Stone is reporting that the upcoming New York Dolls live CD / DVD will now be titled Morrissey Presents: The Return of the New York Dolls -- Live From Royal Festival Hall, 2004. The original title reported by NME was Pre-Crash Condition. Regardless on moniker the record / video will arrive on on September 28th via Attack Records. The material on the two releases was recorded in London last June as part of the Morrissey curated Meltdown Festival. The former Smiths frontman was instrumental in urging the band to reunite after twenty-four years apart.
The CD will consist exclusively of Dolls songs, however the DVD will feature covers of Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart," the Shangri-Las' "Out in the Streets" and Memphis Minnie's "In My Girlish Days." Both releases feature the last appearance on record of bassist Arthur "Killer" Kane, who passed away on July 13th.
The surviving members, vocalist David Johansen and guitarist Syl Sylvain, may move to record a new studio full length soon. "I'm feeling that we'll try and bang out a record this winter," Johansen commented, "and then hit all the festivals next summer."
