Pitchforkmedia is reporting that the long-standing battle between The Postal Service and the U.S. Postal Service has ended. Last fall the U.S.P.S. issued a ceast-and-desist letter to the band in regards to their name and have been in negotiations as a result the past year. The final compromise? Cross-promotion between the national mail distributor and the Sub Pop outfit.

Part of the deal involves the possibility of Postal Service tunes being used in U.S.P.S. ad campaigns and promotions, with Sub Pop considering using local postal outlets as distribution points for Give Up. Additionally, Jimmy Tamborello and Ben Gibbard will be tapped to play a gig at an annual U.S.P.S. conference.

Gary Thuro, U.S.P.S.'s manager of communication services, commented "They reach a young audience that's very important to our future, and music is such a powerful medium."
