The nominees for the 47th annual Grammy Awards have been announced, with Green Day picking up a total of six. The band's new album American Idiot is up for the top prize of Album Of The Year, along with Best Rock Album. Its title track is nominated for Record Of The Year and Best Rock Song. The band also has nominations for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group and Best Short Form Music Video.
Also of note is the Johnny Cash & Joe Strummer collaboration on "Redemption Song," which is up for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals. Among the artists and records nominated in various categories are Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, The Shins, Hatebreed, Killswitch Engage, Motörhead, Modest Mouse, Beastie Boys and Toots & The Maytals. Eligible recordings were those released between October 1, 2003 and September 30, 2004. The Grammy awards will be handed out during a February 13th ceremony at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It will be broadcast live on CBS at 8 p.m EST.
