NME is reporting that Libertines frontman Carl Barât has formed a 'supergroup' of sorts with members of Primal Scream, Razorlight and The Charlatans called The Chavs. In particular the band features The Charlatans singer Tim Burgess, Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows and Primal Scream keyboardist Martin Duffy. The band played their first gig ever last week, performing a combination of Burgess-penned tunes, Libertines songs, and a cover of The Pogues' classic "Fairytale Of New York." There's no word yet on the band's plans for the future.
With the departure of troubled co-frontman Pete Doherty, Barât recently indicated that he was planning to split The Libertines at the end of the year and take the band off the road for the foreseeable future. The Libertines released their Mick Jones produced sophomore full length earlier this year. Since that time Doherty has been touring with is band Babyshambles, who are currently supporting their new single Killamangiro.
