"The Detroit ska band Ich Bin Ein Berliner has decided to call it quits after 3 1/2 years. The donuts have played with the likes of MU330, among others. " Click below to read the announcement from their mailing list.
"Sorry folks, Donutska.com is officially closing its doors. We, the six components of Detroit's Ich Bin Ein Berliner, have decided that we've had a great 3 1/2 year run with this band and that the time has come for us part our separate ways and explore our other interests, both musically and in life itself… We'd like to sincerely thank the dedicated few in Detroit that have actually made the effort to come and see us play often. We've developed great friendships with those of you throughout the past and hope that we'll continue to see you in our new projects or hanging out at the bowling alley. You are the reason that this band has survived for so long. You know who you are. Through our journey as a band we've seen all of Southern Michigan, Peoria, Chicago, and a great number of venues surrounding our home in Detroit, and we have been in a different studio on 4 separate occasions to record for your pleasure. We've tried our best to give you a fun time, something to dance to, or something to talk about, and we sincerely hope that we've accomplished our goal. Trying to consistently play shows in the Detroit area without any hope of a "ska" boom has been a task in itself, and we hope that we have done our part to try and bring the falling scene together. In honor of the local Detroit punk/ska scene, the band has agreed to play one final farewell show: Tuesday, March 6, 2001 The Wired Frog (of course) Backrow Rebellion, Recess Rejects Makeshift Fiasco, King Django (from NY) 7:00 p.m. sharp, 1/2 hour set Merchandise: Having a surplus of unsold merchandise left, we will be having a pseudo "Going Out of Business Sale" on the night of our final show. We will be slashing the prices on our CD's to $1 a piece, discounting our shirts to $3 a piece, and giving away all the buttons, stickers and patches we can until we run out. Long time fans will get first pick at what we have. Thank you, Detroit, for the good times, the bad times, the in-between times and the hectic times that we've been dealt. You'll surely see some of us around town playing in new projects in the next coming months. If you choose, please come out to our show and say goodbye to us as a band. For the record, the final number of people in our mailing list is… 420. How convenient.
Sincerely,
The Boys and Girl of Ich Bin Ein Berliner
