John Lydon has been voted "most punk" in a recent poll conducted by Britain's Radio 1. The station marked the 30th anniversary of the first Sex Pistols show with the poll which also asked about "most punk" songs. John Lyndon, the vocalist of the Sex Pistols won in a poll which included Joe Strummer, Hunter S.Thompson, Johnny Ramone and John Peel in the top five, and also featured a diverse range of people from Bill Hicks to Eminem and Ian MacKaye.
For "most punk song," Green Day's breakout 1994 hit "Basket Case" led the way, with The Undertones' "Teenage Kicks" coming second. Notable tracks on the list included the Dead Kennedys' "Holiday in Cambodia" and Refused' "New Noise" as well as tracks from NOFX, Buzzcocks and others.
More on the results can be found here. The entire four-hour special can be streamed online from the BBC.
I was also asked to nominate songs and people for the poll, and you can find the list I submitted below.
