The Stooges, Sex Pistols and Blondie are among the the recently announced nominees for the 2006 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Stooges and the Sex Pistols have been nominated five times each, and other nominees include Black Sabbath, who are on their eighth, and Blondie who are on their first.
Other holdovers from previous years include the J. Geils Band, John Mellencamp, the Patti Smith Group, Chic, Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five, and Joe Tex. First-time nominees include Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, the Paul Butterfield Band, the Dave Clark Five and the Sir Douglas Quintet.
The inductees are selected by music industry professionals and journalists will make their final votes, and the results will most likely be announced in December. Previous inductees of note include The Ramones, who were inducted in 2002 along with the Talking Heads. The Clash followed in 2003.
Artists are eligible after at least 25 years have passed since their first record was released.
