Chicago-based Punk Planet has run into serious distribution problems. The award-winning magazine published it's first issue in 1994 and will soon publish its 70th issue.
According to an email from the editors, the Independent Press Association, a not-for-profit organization that owns the magazine's main distributor, BigTop Newstand Services has had cash flow problems and payments to publishers would be severely constricted.
The email added:
The money coming in from newsstand sales is vital to publishers' bottom line. For a magazine like Punk Planet, where our ad rates remain very low to cater to independent businesses, those distributor payments are even more critical.
The result has left the future of the magazine in some doubt; in the short term, they plan to continue publishing and ask for concerned people to subscribe or support the magazine with advertising.
