Richmond, VA's Wow, Owls! will be calling it quits early next year. The band posted a lengthy statement in a blog on their Myspace page, in part mentioning the following:
While all of us are so very thankful for the support we have recieved from all of the people who ever came to shows, or bought our records, some of the members of our band cannot continue to commit so much time and income to being a part of a band that could potentially be capable of much more than we have already accomplished.I can't even begin to try to compile a list of people who have made this short run such a fun and important ride for all of us, but I'm sure you all know who you are. The important thing to remember is that with the end of this band, we will all be pursuing something new, and as much as i hate drastic change, the prospect of creating something different is somewhat appealing.
The band still plan on completing their tour obligations, those being several weeks of European dates late this month, continuing through to mid-January 2006. After the tour's completion, they will record the 3 songs written since the release of their debut full-length, this past year's Pick Your Patterns. The band has 3 final tentative dates planned for February 2006 as well.
In addition to the aforementioned Patterns, the band also self-released the Mind Explosion demo in 2004, as well as a split 7" with the SetUp on The Perpetual Motion Machine this past year.
