The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has reared it's inflated head again with another batch of lawsuits against internet firms. The association filed a copyright-infringement suit against Launch Media (owners of Launch.Com, Warped Tour) yesterday. The suit claims that LAUNCHcast, the company's web radio service, contains interactive elements that are not covered under its licensing agreements with certain labels. Launch has temporarily disabled the service. The the RIAA has filed a copyright-infringement suit against peer-to-peer software developer AbovePeer Inc., which distributes Aimster. Aimster allows consumers to trade files among users on "buddy lists." The RIAA claims the software violates copyright law and is not restricted list members. Not punk news exactly, but music news in general. While everyone has their own valid views of the "Napster" issues, it seems that the RIAA is getting a bit too techno-phobic. Going after pirated music is one thing, but going after web-radio?
