As some people feared after the Fox/Newscorp buyout of the popular social site, MySpace has allegedly begun silently banning a competitor's site. According to YouTube, Myspace is now removing all YouTube videos as well as any and all references to YouTube itself.

YouTube, a video hosting provider, acts as both a place for home recordings, but has also grown popular as a place for musicians and bands to share videos and other visual content. Those aspects of the site seems to compete directly with Myspace's music section. Some users have also speculated that the social site plans on offering a similar video service in the future.

An attempt to add a Youtube video to the Punknews.org myspace page resulted in the links being replaced by two periods. The results can be found in the "About Me" section of that page.

MySpace previously - albeit temporarily - blocked all video embeds in early November, however they have not responded to queries from YouTube or Punknews.org as to why YouTube has been singled out at this point.

Update: Myspace has apparently re-enabled all embeded references to YouTube.
