Long Island, NY ska-punks High School Football Heroes have announced their break-up via a blog post on their MySpace. In the post, saxophonist/keyboardist Jason Rutcofsky wrote a history of the band with the following introduction and conclusion:

Well, here's a letter I never thought I'd have to write. One that I wish I was never writing and you don't know how hard it is for me to get my feelings down here. You really believe when you're in a band with 4 of your best friends there is no way you can break up, especially with no one mad. But it happened. Indefinite hiatus is a nicer thing to say then breaking up cause it still leaves hope…so I'm going to use that term, but we all know what I really mean.

Thanks to everyone that supported us over the years, and especially to people that came out to shows, all over the country. Maybe this isn't the end, maybe it's a new beginning, and maybe you'll see the High School Football Heroes again. I certainly hope so. But for now this is goodbye. I suppose eventually we'll do a last show though at the moment we haven't spoken about one and I suppose I'll update here every so often and let you know about future plans for the members. I'll miss you all, and I'll miss this.

The band's discography included their sole full-length, 2004's Close Only Counts in Horseshoes & Handgrenades, and a more recent EP, We've Fooled Around Long Enough. Both were released via Abestos Records.
