Two announcements from indie powerhouse Sub Pop. First, the label has launched a new imprint, Hardly Art Records. The label will be run by Sarah Moody, who previously worked in the publicity department at Sub Pop, and Nick Heliotis.
The first signing for Hardly Art is the Seattle duo Arthur & Yu, whose album In Camera will be released on June 19th, 2007. Comprised of Grant Olsen and Sonya Westcott, the album promises "hazy, layered vocals that float over textural acoustics and draws inspiration from the Velvet Underground as well as the studio experimentation of Lee Hazlewood,
In addition, the label has announced a college scholarship open to high school seniors.
The label is offering $5750 worth of college scholarship money to an eligible high school senior who is a resident of Washington or Oregon. Applicants must be a graduating senior on their way to full-time enrollment at an accredited university or college. Preferences are for applicants involved and/or interested in music and/or the creative arts in some way.
