Hopeless / Sub City has announced that they've now surpassed one million dollars in charity donations. The San Fernando Valley based indie label, which employs 10 people, will throw a celebration on August 26th at the Troubadour in Los Angeles benefitting Project MuszEd. The event will bring together fans, local politicians and business leaders for an award presentation and performances by Hopeless acts Amber Pacific and All Time Low. Students of Project MuszEd, which supports inner-city kids with a passion for music, will also perform at the show.
Hopeless launched the Sub City imprint in 1999, with its first charitable recipient the Foundation Fighting Blindness. Since then the organization has raised funds for more than 50 non-profit organizations. In particular the label donated over $100,000 to south central LA drop-in center A Place Called Home from the sales of Thrice's 2002 breakthrough The Illusion of Safety. The annual Take Action Tour, most recently supporting the Kristin Brooks Hope Center (1-800-SUICIDE and 1-877-YOUTHLINE), have cumulated in three press conferences on Capital Hill. There the label has raised awareness on mental health issues and suicide prevention for young Americans.
