Germany's Optimal Media has reportedly introduced a new format dubbed VinylDisc which combines the audio CD with vinyl. The disc looks like a normal CD except that on the top, it has vinyl grooves etched in. Place a VinylDisc on your turntable, drop the needle at the start of the track, and you'll hear up to 3.5 minutes of music at 33 RPM.

The format is interesting, if only as a way to provide an extra song or two for those with turntables but unfortunately the minimal amount of music that can be stored on the vinyl really will limit this for most.
