Houston's O Pioneers!!! have posted a rather lengthly update on what is going on with the band. In the statement, vocalist Eric Solomon explains the departure of drummer Chris Ryan as well as the band's recording and touring plans for the rest of the year.
O Pioneers!!! have been busy, having recorded a split 10" with Bomb the Music Industry and will soon release a 7" on Asian Man Records as well as a split 7" with The Announcement.
My beloved friend Chris Ryan, has decided to move on. He is leaving O Pioneers!!! and his show with us on Feb. 15th in Denton, Tx will most likely be the last show he plays with this band. Alot of people are very upset and asking, why is he leaving? Well there are a couple of reasons.
-When we were on tour coming home from the fest, we stop and ate at mcdonalds. He chipped his tooth on a poppy seed (i kid you not), and had to get a real job for dental insurance. -Chris runs a fucking amazing studio in houston called "DEAD CITY SOUND". I highly suggest if you are in a band and can make it over and record with him you do. He is already super busy with the studio, making it hard to tour and practice, but he is fucking awesome at it, and you should tottally support him!so what am i gonna do next? With no drummer, and that being a problem in a two man band? Why i'm going to ask my friends THE PAPER MOONS to join me. Lucky for me they said yes! so for the next couple months, while i'm looking for a dummer they will be my back up band. And when i say they i mean- dani hawkins will be playing drums, and Matt clark will be playing bass. YES WE WILL NOW HAVE A BASS PLAYER. Matt and Dani cut their teeth in bands like ADIOS and LITTLE COMPASS. Like i said now they play in PAPER MOONS (http://www.myspace.com/thepapermoonsband), and they rule. their first show with me will be 02/16 in AUSTIN!!!! STOKED!!! oh and whats even more awesome, is that you have the chance to see paper moons play a song or two before pioneers!, its gonna blow your mind.
Wow that you have a new band, what are you going to do this summer? RECORD A NEW ALBUM!!!! i've started to work on the songs, and i think i have about 6 right now. i'm hoping to get 5 to 6 more. The new record is gonna be called Neon Creeps. The CD is coming out on asian man, and the vinyl is coming out on asian man/kiss of death. We are hoping to have it out in july! Jeff Rosenstock is doing the art.
We are also hoping to tour tour tour! I'm trying to set up a uk/euro tour in may, but if that doesn't work we will most likely do a two week east coast tour. Hopefully we'll be doing tours in may, july, and august, and then hopefully fest in october!
That's awesome anything else in the works? By the time I post this Asian man should be shipping out our 7"s with art by Mitch Clem! We are also finishing up our song for our split with THE ANCHOR from austin, on triumph of life records. I just approved the Test pressing of the split 7" with announcement, on raise your fist records. so those should be coming out soon too!
We will be partaking in Suburban Home's "under the influence" series, and I think we are doing Piebald's "american hearts" and or/ A Murder City Devils song…more to come on this. And sometime in the near future we are doing a split with The Paper Moons, I think Suburban Home is gonna do it, and its gonna fucking RAGE!
