Suburban Home Records has announced that they will be distributing the latest project from Murder By Death, an instrumental score for a science fiction/fantasy/horror novel entitled Finch, written by Jeff Vandermeer. The band elaborated on the project:
"Jeff approached Murder By Death about doing a soundtrack to go with the limited edition of his new book, and we thought it was such a strange idea we had to do it. The book reminds us of Bladerunner- with spore-faced bad guys. Bitchin'. We locked ourselves up in our friend's studio (Farm Fresh) here in Bloomington, IN for 5 days and wrote and recorded an instrumental album inspired by the book. Our old pianist Vincent Edwards lent his hand(s) at the piano, organs, and Rhodes. Each song is attempting to recreate a scene or mood from the book."
The soundtrack will be released on the band's own Tent Show Records. Murder By Death's last proper full-length was 2008's Red of Tooth and Claw, issued by Vagrant. Cover art and a synopsis for the book itself can be found here.
