Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:
Q: do you think there is a loss of artistic integrity when bands release the same songs over and over again? in other words do you think that musicians as artists have some sort of ethical responsibility to be trying to new things musically and artistically? A: It really depends on what the band intends to accomplish as artists, and what the fans want. A lot of bands have a tried and true formula, they stick to it, it works well for them and their fans and that's that. Pennywise, for example, hasn't done much to their formula over the years and their fanbase hasn't really waned, nor would it seem the members of the band aren't fulfilled as artists. A more contemporary example would be Teenage Bottlerocket, a band that's arguably more popular now than they've ever been. There's nothing wrong with that approach if the band and fans are happy with it.-Bryne
