us with this excerpt from a Henry Rollins interview with the Sydney street press 'The Drum Media' about the Rise Above project for the benefit of the West Memphis Three:
"It was the biggest ego trip, to want to assemble troops and have them come to the call? To have Chuck D come to it? Iggy Pop? It was like, wow! I mean something to somebody but it's all about Greg (Ginn) and Black Flag, it's the music and the cause. But, yeah, the fact that they come on in the strength of me contacting them, yeah, that was quite a compliment"Â
In relation to the West Memphis Three's response, Rollins had the following to say, "One boy who's kind of challenged, Jessie, he doesn't quite understand what we are doing. He doesn't really understand why he's in jail. The other two, yeah, they're blown away and they're really blown away that Tom from Slayer is on the record cause they really like Slayer. So I brought in extra copies of his lyric sheet for Revenge and I had him write letters to the boys on the lyric sheet and they flipped. You're in jail and Tom Araya sends you a letter. Not bad"
