NBC has announced that Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong will be joining the ranks of its singing contest reality show "The Voice" for its upcoming third season. He will serve as a mentor to Christina Aguilera's team. Armstrong praised the show, saying:

'The Voice' has won over viewers because it's not molding artists, it's just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover.

The show's third season is set to begin airing on September 10th. Green Day's first of three upcoming albums, ¡Uno!, is due out September 25, 2012.
