Q: Which band do you think has consistently great album artwork?

A: Propagandhi. Hands down. Everything past How To Clean Everything has been as interesting to look at as the album is to listen to (maybe even more so in the case of Supporting Caste …oooooohhhhh!). A close second would be Hot Water Music. The only reason I like Propagandhi more is because their artwork seems more tied in with the theme of the album. I enjoy Caution and I think the music and the cover are both amazing but I really don't feel they mesh together well.

The same goes for Against Me! and Steak Mtn. I think they're both amazing but pieces like White Crosses didn't work for me. Though his series on New Wave was completely fantastic.

However, it's so much more fun to talk about bands with great music and shitty artwork. The last two Tegan and Sara albums spring to mind. Great music, horridly bad art. Likewise I think nearly ALL 90's skate/punk bands suffered from this syndrome. I'm not sure if it was just the time or the general ability to do whatever they wanted but so much artwork on albums by bands like Lagwagon, NOFX, and Guttermouth have just aged REALLY poorly. -Rich
