Though he quite publicly and harshly condemned his major label in 2007 and then ditched them soon after, Nine Inch Nails only consistent member Trent Reznor has been warming back up to the majors and released his side project How to Destroy Angels though Sony's Columbia imprint.

Now, having reformed his one-man band, he has also signed his main project to Columbia. He didn't really address the change of heart, but said this about his upcoming album due in the fall:

I've been less than honest about what I've really been up to lately. For the last year I've been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly fucking great. This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, How to Destroy Angels and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place.

His last release under the name was 2008's the Slip which was only released as a donation-suggested online release and it made more than $1.5M before being picked up by EMI.
