Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has been cast in Like Sunday, Like Rain , a new independent drama film from writer/directory Frank Whaley. It will also include Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester who leads as a struggling musician who becomes the guardian of a 12-year-old music prodigy one summer. Armstrong will play her boyfriend and Will and Grace's Debra Messing will play the prodigy's mother.

The film has begun shooting in New York.
