The Hold Steady, who have maintained a relatively low profile since 2010's Heaven Is Whenever, have reached 143% of their requested goal to fund a covers EP. The EP will precede the band's next album which is expected in 2014. Each of the five songs on the EP will be selected by one of the five members of the band.

As with normal fundraising campaigns, the band is throwing in lots of perks like handwritten lyric sheets, credits in the EP, show tickets and various autographed items. Higher pledges include a phone call, a jog with vocalist Craig Finn, a "pep talk" from Finn, a haircut from Tad Kubler, a musical tour of Memphis with Steve Selvidgeand and much more.
