Ian Watkins (previously of the recently disbanded Lostprophets) has been sentenced to 29 years in jail today in Cardiff, Wales for child sex offenses. Wales Online reports:
He was branded a "deeply corrupting influence" and a "dangerous sexual predator" by Mr Justice Royce, and will have to serve at least two thirds of his 29-year term before he is eligible for parole.
Prior to today's sentence, Watkins reportedly stated, according to Wales Online:
I'm going to put a statement on [December] 18th now just to say it was megalolz, I don't know what everyone is getting so freaked out about.
The sentence is the court's decision for last month's guilty plea to 13 counts of sex abuse -- including the attempted rape of a baby. You can read live updates of the case here.
Update: Several other news agencies are reporting that Watkins was sentenced to 35 years. That 35 years includes 29 years in prison and 6 years under license, which means under police supervision, but not necessarily in incarceration.
