Punknews.org's Best Midwestern podcast, focusing on the music of the U.S. Midwest, is back this week with a new episode. The show is hosted by long time Punknews contributor Greg Simpson and former Punknews editor, current editor-in-chief of Substream magazine and owner of Youth Conspiracy Records, Scott Heisel. In this episode…
We talk with the one and only Josh Caterer, singer of Chicago's punk legends the Smoking Popes. The band's record Born to Quit turned 20 on Capitol Records this year (21 if you are cool enough to own the Johann's Face version) and we talk about the history of their signing to a major label with the help of the Green Day bump, as well as delving far back into what music Josh grew up on and how much his parents played a part in the band's sound to come. He also reveals some exclusive stories behind songs that have never been heard in interviews before.
