Fender guitars recently conducted a study of player demographics. according to the study, half of new guitar players are women. Following in the line of previously conducted studies from the past few years, this ratio is nearly identical in USA and the UK.
Other interesting points incliude: 72 percent of guitar players pick up a guitar for the first time to gain a life skill or improve themselves; 61 percent also simply want to learn how to play songs by themselves or with close friends and family; 42 percent say they view guitar as part of their identity.
On a related note, though guitar sales are down from their '70s heyday, the past few years has seen an increase in guitar sales in the USA.
