Rolling Stone is reporting that the surviving members of Detroit's MC5 are planning to tour in support of new DVD releases. Guitarist Wayne Kramer, bassist Michael Davis and drummer Dennis "Machine Gun" Thompson are planning to hit the road under the name DKT/MC5. Vocalist Rob Tyner died in 1991 so filling the vocal spots will be guests including Evan Dando, Marshall Crenshaw, Mudhoney's Mark Arm, Radio Birdman's Deniz Tek and The Hellacopters' Nicke Royale. No word if someone else is picking up a guitar to fill in for late guitarist Fred "Sonic" Smith (who died in `94), or if Kramer will go it alone. The tour will commence in June with several North American dates (including Detroit, of course) as well as shows in Europe, Australia and Japan.
The first DVD released is due July 6th, titled Sonic Revolution: A Celebration Of The MC5. It features footage shot in London at last year's concert with the three surviving members and guests Ian Astbury, Royale, Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister, The Damned's Dave Vanian and others. A documentary will also be included that features interviews with Jack White, members of Primal Scream and Death in Vegas as well as footage taken by the U.S. Department of Defence when they monitored the band at the 1968 Democratic National Convention.
The second DVD is titled MC5: A True Testimonia was due in May but is currently in limbo due to " publishing clearance issues."
