On Wednesday, May 19th 2004 XM Satellite Radio's new fulltime punk channel FUNGUS 53 will celebrate the birthday of Joey Ramone with a 24 hour special titled RAMONESMANIA. The station will play an entire day of Ramones songs, solo work, demos, cover songs and tunes written about or inspired by the Ramones. In addition the station will run interviews with Tommy Ramone, Marky Ramone, Joey's mother, Rock and Roll High School star P.J. Soles, longtime Ramones tour manger Monte A. Melnick and archival interview pieces with the late Joey. A number of bands will also be on the air paying tribute, among them members of Talking Heads, Descendents, Local H, Alkaline Trio, Against Me!, Pennywise, Mojo Nixon and The Lawrence Arms. On top of all that the station will run a dramatic Shakespearean style reading of Ramones lyrics in "Beat on the Bard" segments. They'll also be giving away autographed copies of Monte A. Melnick's new book "On the Road with the Ramones" in a series of trivia contests.
