On Saturday July 27th Yellowcard had a free in-store acoustic performance in Thousand Oaks, CA. The first time had seen Yellowcard was not too long ago at the Ventura Warped Tour. I was impressed enough to go to this free show and check them out in an intimate setting.
There were about 50 or so kids waiting for the band to play which was suppose to be at 6pm. Around 6:10pm they finally came on. As they asked for requests immediately everyone wanted to hear the "Underdog EP." I myself have not heard it yet. They said it was too hard for them to play and they just learned how to play those songs. I was not too impressed that they said it was too hard to play when they themselves made the songs up. I yelled out my favorite song, "rock star land" off their "One for the kids" album. Despite the nice crowd only a handful knew the words. There set was nice filled with some jokes by their lead singer. This band has great stage presence in a normal show but it did not spill into their acoustic set.
Yellowcard is a fun up and coming band. If it wasn't for their violinist I don't think I would be interested in them. They would be another pop-punk band with songs about break ups. I do give them credit with lyrics that rise above that style of writing.
