The Green Album is one of the most overrated albums of all time. It's a short, fun, power pop album, but it's nothing more than that. Their last album came out in 1996, and this album came out in 2001. Critics were automatically ready to give it a great review. Spending time on something doesn't mean it's going to be great. These songs seem too simple for my liking, and lack a strong melodic punch that their earlier efforts had. The melodies are decent, but they just aren't that special. The production is painfully clean, but I can appreciate how perfect the guitars are. I've never heard guitars be this on time. Sometimes I just listen to the them, and marvel at their timing.

There was something magical about their first two albums. It seemed like it was a band singing together, not just a bunch of robots. Some of the harmonies are pretty bizarre. A lot of them don't even make sense, but they seem to work anyway. This album has exactly 10 songs, just like their previous two releases. It really is the perfect length, because any longer would make it feel like it's dragging on. That's the thing with this album, since it's so short, you can't really complain about it. You might be wanting something more, but it's still a fair listen. Almost all of the guitar solos seem to copy the verse in whatever song it's being played in. This is awesome, especially in songs like "Crab" and "Photograph".
