DeeCRACKS are a Ramones worshiping trio from Austria. They’re better known in Europe, where they’ve been around for 15 years and have played over 800 shows. Sonic Delusions is the band’s first album for Pirate’s Press, and DeeCracks seem poised to make a bigger name for themselves here in the good, old US of A. I’ve been on a bit of a pop-punk trip lately, so DeeCRACKS have been on my radar. They’re not trying to reinvent the wheel, but this band and album will definitely scratch your Ramones itch.
The thing that makes DeeCRACKS stand out from other bands doing this style is the gruff voice of vocalist/guitarist Matt DeeCRACK. Its harshness might add an extra sense of aggression to the music. Otherwise, the songs follow the pretty standard Ramones formula. That’s not meant as an insult, as they do it quite well. There’s just enough sonic diversity to keep things interesting, and Sonic Delusions is consistently good across its 16 songs and nearly 33 minutes.
