Ah the emu, deceptively deadly. My friend's psychotic neighbor used to raise those things in droves. One tried to kick his dog's skull in one day, so we were forced to fight it off. One hockey stick to the neck sealed the deal and the beast was defeated. Let this be a lesson to you all: stay the hell away from emus.
Well, know that I've got that out of the way, I can move on to the actual review. Team Emu play a mix of old fashion punk rock, with a dash of hardcore thrown in for good measure. This one of the more energetic bands I've heard in a while. This Atlanta based three piece puts a load of heart into their songs. This 7" is full of lo-fi, fast, undeniably scrappy songs. The songs here flow and bounce back and forth and if you aren't nodding or at least tapping your foot along, there's probably something wrong with you. That's something a lot of reviewers say, but in this case I really think it's true. This is a very fun record.
This band has the ability to change things up if they want, as displayed by the final song "Missing". "Missing" is slower than any other song on the disc, and on top that it's instrumental. I would have expected this band to close things out with a bang, but this upbeat, soothing track was still a suiting finish to this solid EP. This band isn't overtly aggressive in any sense of the word, but these songs still pack a punch. This just goes to show that you don't have to be angry or sad to write emotionally involved music.
I didn't know anything about this band before I heard this, but now I'm inclined to find out more about them. This is just some gritty, energetic, fun punk rock played by three people who seem to really love what they're doing. I don't think you can really ask for a whole lot more from a band.
