Sure, there are screaming vocals. Sure, there are metal riffs. Sure, there are powerful drum beats. But it's not metalcore. I know what you must be thinking right now, and I'm sure it goes something like, "WHHhHhHhHHAAAaaaAAAA?!?! Who is driving? Bear is driving! How can this be?!?" To give you a better scope, I'd say that it generally jumps between resembling bands like Hella and Lightning Bolt to sounding like Drive Like Jehu, but with less dissonance. To tell you the truth, it's been awhile since I've heard new music this energetic and forceful.
Form of Rocket throws down some killer riffs with some wickedly heavy and raw drums. The bass is solid and plays matching rhythms with the drums, sort of Fugazi-ish in nature. It really seems like this band functions in two parts, with guitars on one side and drums and bass on the other. While complimenting each other, they also throwdown in an epic gang fight reminiscent of the early 90s coastal battles.
What makes this record is the raw recording that it has. It sounds like a live show playing out in the studio, with a lot of background vocals being shouted out in the actual background. It truly feels like you are a part of the music instead of super-slick records that sound like you just wandered into the land of musical engineers where every flaw is effortlessly cut out. You can hear shouts in the background when the guitars drop out, you can hear extra chatter during the songs, and you can tell these guys love doing what they do, which is write some original awesome material.
While this isn't my preferred type of music, I respect it to no end. I highly suggest that you check these guys out.
